WILL ALL ROWERS BE GUARANTEED TO RACE?

Participation in regattas is entirely based on the assessment of the coaching staff.  If there are any concerns regarding the rower’s ability to complete the race safely, they will not be permitted to compete.  Otherwise, every effort will be made to ensure that rowers have the opportunity to race in at least one event at each regatta.  Coaches have more flexibility in the summer to achieve this as rowers are generally not limited to one race per regatta.  This enables more flexibility in putting together lineups (although higher entry costs).

WHAT ABOUT SUMMER FAMILY PLANS?

Summer rowing is both more competitive and paradoxically more flexible than the Spring scholastic season.  Vacations, family events, camps and travel are all elements of the summer that may require rowers to prioritize certain regattas over others.  At the beginning of the season, rowers identify at least one priority race for which they will train rigorously.  They also identify any races for which they will not be available.  Using this formula, coaches are able to assemble lineups and arrange the training plan to help the rower meet his/her summer goals.

HOW IS TRANSPORTATION HANDLED FOR ROWERS?

Rowers and parents are responsible for organizing team member transportation to and from practices.  Most commonly, parents or driving students work together to organize car pools.  The team travels to regattas in the same way.  Coaches organize for the transportation by trailer of the rowing shells and equipment.  Most races take place on the same Philadelphia based course as during the spring season which keeps driving to a minimum.
